题目:Some remarks on complex solution  representations in elasticity and their use for numerical methods

报告内容摘要:
For several problems in mechanics the solution for the displacements, strains and stresses can be expressed in terms of complex valued functions. These problems include (i) plane strain/stress for isotropic and anisotropic materials, (ii) plate bending for isotropic and anisotropic thin plates, (iii) three-dimensional plate analysis, and (iv) three-dimensional elasticity problems. With the use of the complex valued functions the satisfaction of the governing differential equations is guaranteed a priori. Choosing different types of complex functions, it becomes possible to construct easily infinite sets of functions satisfying the governing differential equations. The solution representations are very useful for (i) solving problems analytically, (ii) analyzing a local solution behavior (as, for example, near corners, cracks, or holes), and (iii) for application in numerical methods such as finite element and boundary element methods.

报告人简介:
Dr. Reinhard Piltner received his doctoral degree from the Ruhr-University in Bochum, Germany in 1982 while working at the Institute for Mechanics in the Computational Mechanics group. Postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley in the Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials group allowed the speaker to concentrate on finite element and boundary element methods while keeping his interest on theoretical and applied mechanics. Taught a variety of courses at the Ruhr-University in Bochum, University of Nebraska, and Georgia Southern University. Current interests are on Biomedical engineering and CT image based 3D simulations.
