报告内容摘要:
The study of the physics of high energy density matter requires the development of adequate diagnostics to probe matter state and its hydrodynamics. Time resolved X-ray radiography is often used to retrieve information on phenomena like shock wave propagation, implosion dynamics, etc. This normally used a laser-produced plasma as a powerful source of X-rays which are used to “backlight” the sample to be probed. X-ray radiography is based on the difference in the absorption of X-rays by matter with different characteristics. In the introduction, I will give a few examples of application of resolved X-ray radiography. Despite being a powerful diagnostic, it fails when the difference in absorption becomes small because in this case there is not enough contrast in the formed images. One particular case when this happens is the propagation of a second shock in matter which has already been compressed and heated by a first shock (a problem clearly relevant for the “Shock Ignition” approach to Inertial Fusion). For this reason, we are trying to develop X-ray Phase contrast Imaging. Unlike X-ray radiography, XPCI is based on the difference in refraction index of matter which induces a phase shift in the probing X-ray radiation. In the talk, I will present the results of an experiment performed at GSI, Germany, using the laser Phelix, the approach developed to analyze XPCI images, and the perspectives of future use.
