课程简介:
This short course is an introduction to the area of fluid dynamics and rheology of complex fluids. It is intended for graduate students who have taken at least 1 graduate-level fluid mechanics course. Starting from experimental observations of anomalous flow behavior, we will discuss a group of continuum and molecular constitutive theories for a variety of complex fluids, including dilute polymer solutions, polymer melts, liquid crystals, suspensions and emulsions. Then we will focus on state-of-the-art computational strategies for simulating processing flows of these materials. The goal of this course is to broaden the audience’s outlook in the rapidly developing area of complex fluids, so that they may either borrow the methodology to their own research, or even identify related research topics for their future work.
任课教师简历:
Feng started his teaching career at the City College of New York in 1998, and moved to University of British Columbia in 2004, where he is now an Associate Professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering and in Mathematics. He has taught Fluid Mechanics, Rheology and Mathematics to undergraduate and graduate students. His research has dealt with a number of sub-areas in the dynamics of complex fluids, including fluid-solid systems, polymer solutions, liquid crystalline polymers, and liquid-liquid two-phase systems. He was recognized with an NSF Career Award (2000) for his work in complex fluids and currently holds a Canada Research Chair in Interfacial Dynamics and Complex Fluids at UBC.
